Call for Nominations for the 16th Thieme-IUPAC Prize

The Thieme Group in collaboration with IUPAC and the Editors of SYNTHESIS, SYNLETT, SYNFACTS, and Science of Synthesis announce the Thieme-IUPAC Prize for 2024. This award is presented every two years on the occasion of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry – International Conference on Organic Synthesis (IUPAC–ICOS). It includes an award of €5,000.

General Principles

  • The 2024 prize will be awarded to a scientist who must be no older than 42 years of age on Jan. 1, 2024. This means that all candidates who would have been eligible for the 2022 Prize, which was suspended due to Covid, will be considered eligible for the 2024 Thieme-IUPAC Prize.
  • The candidate’s research must have had a major impact in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • The prize will be awarded based on scientific merit for independent research dealing with synthesis in the broadest context of organic chemistry, including organometallic chemistry, medicinal and biological chemistry.

Nomination

Proposals must be accompanied by:

  • a biographical sketch of the nominee
  • a list of the candidate’s ten most significant publications
  • a statement of how the candidate’s research has had a major impact on the field of synthetic organic chemistry

The material will be confidentially forwarded to an independent selection committee.

Deadline

Nomination materials should be submitted by e-mail to marcus.white@thieme.de by December 15, 2023.

2024 Winner

Franziska Schoenebeck of RWTH Aachen University has been chosen as the Thieme-IUPAC Prize 2024 recipient and joins a select group of scientists whose research has had a major impact on the field of synthetic organic chemistry.

The award ceremony will take place at the ICOS 2024 conference.
