Thieme Editor invested Officer of the Order of Canada

On November 18, 2015, Professor Mark Lautens from the University of Toronto was invested Officer of the Order of Canada by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa.

The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. A year earlier, Professor Mark Lautens, SYNTHESIS and SYNFACTS Editor from the University of Toronto, had been appointed to the Order by the Governor General. Professor Lautens was recognized for his accomplishments in the field of organic chemistry:

‘Mark Lautens is changing how the next generation of medicines will be made. A professor and industrial research chair in organic synthesis at the University of Toronto, he has made globally significant contributions to organic chemistry. He has simplified the steps needed to create complex compounds and invented chemical processes that enable the design of new medicinal molecules, ultimately reducing the environmental impact of pharmaceutical drugs. He is also known as a beloved mentor who is dedicated to training future leaders of academia and industry.’
