C&EN Article about Select Crowd Review

“The case for crowd peer review” shows how the innovative review process can improve publishing.

In her recent article in Chemical & Engineering News, Tien M. Nguyen evaluates the process and the benefits of "crowd reviewing" and compares this new method with the classic peer review method. She analyzes the process from start to finish: the incoming participation e-mail, the reviewing of the manuscript itself, and the publication of the paper.

Tien M. Nguyen concludes that most of the participants find the reduced workload to be one of the biggest benefits of crowd reviewing. Another positive result is the improvement of manuscripts through various opinions and perspectives. Despite these chances and potentials, crowd reviewing is still at an early stage and time will tell whether crowd review will catch on, she says.
