Congratulations to the SYNTHESIS and SYNLETT Best Paper Award Winners 2017!

Tõnis Kanger for SYNTHESIS and Masakazu Nambo and Cathleen Crudden for SYNLETT, together with their co-authors, are the recipients of the 2017 Best Paper Awards.

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Tõnis Kanger and co-workers, from Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia, are the recipients of the SYNTHESIS Best Paper Award 2017 for their article Asymmetric Synthesis of 2,3,4-Trisubstituted Piperidines.

In announcing the selection, Paul Knochel, Editor-in-Chief of SYNTHESIS, commented: "The paper describes an asymmetric synthesis of substituted piperidines, which are indeed very important pharmaceutical targets, and this new piperidine synthesis uses two impressive organocatalytic cascades. The selection committee noted not only the scientific value of the paper, but also its presentation. It is a wonderful contribution that we are proud to have published in SYNTHESIS."

It is our great pleasure to announce that the SYNLETT Best Paper Award 2017 is being awarded to Masakazu Nambo, Cathleen Crudden, and co-workers for their article Synthesis of Tetraarylmethanes by the Triflic Acid-Promoted Formal Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling of Triarylmethanes with Arenes. The work was a collaboration between the two research groups at Nagoya University in Japan and Queen's University in Canada.

Benjamin List, Editor-in-Chief of SYNLETT, noted: "Nambo, Yim, Fowler, and Crudden have developed an elegant synthesis of tetraarylmethanes that involves an acid-catalyzed oxidative coupling of an arene with triarylmethanes, which became readily accessible in previous studies by the authors. The reaction proceeds via trityl-type cations and enables the formation of fascinating products, in which four different arenes are connected via a single stereogenic carbon atom."
