Welcome to Tehshik Yoon as New Editorial Board Member of Science of Synthesis
We are excited to report that Professor Tehshik P. Yoon from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, joins the Science of Synthesis Editorial Board as a new member with effect of October 1st, 2025.
Tehshik was born in Montréal (Canada) and grew up in Blacksburg, VA (USA). He earned his AB in chemistry in 1996 from Harvard University where he worked in lab of late Prof. Dave Evans. He then moved to Caltech at the West coast for his Master’s degree studying under the guidance of Prof. Erick Carreira (1996–1998). Following that, he studied methods to control the stereochemistry of pericyclic reactions as the first PhD student of Prof. David MacMillan, first at UC Berkeley and later back at Caltech. After obtaining his PhD in 2002 he returned to Harvard University as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the group of Eric Jacobsen with a focus on the use of hydrogen bonding urea catalysts in asymmetric synthesis.
In 2005, Tehshik joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA) as Assistant Professor to start his independent research career. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011 and is Full Professor of Chemistry since 2013. Photochemistry is currently the focus in Tehshik’s research group, covering topics such as enantioselective catalysis of photochemical reactions, the development of strategies for photochemically enabled synthesis, and mechanistic investigations of photochemical reactions.
Tehshik has been recognized for both his contributions to research and pedagogy with numerous awards, among them the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award (2010) and very recently the 2026 David A. Evans Award for the Advancement and Education of Organic Synthesis by the ACS.

Tehshik has already delivered content to Science of Synthesis Reference Library projects in the past as an author, namely for “Photocatalysis in Organic Synthesis” and “Free Radicals: Fundamentals and Applications in Organic Synthesis.”
