Paul Knochel was awarded the Julius Bredt Lecture

On February 21, 2017, the SYNTHESIS Editor-in-Chief Professor Paul Knochel from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany) has been honored with the 2017 Julius Bredt Lecture. Congratulations!

The lecture took place in the Institute of Organic Chemistry of RWTH Aachen University. His lecture „Polyfunctionalized Organometallics in Synthesis“ fitted well in the row of the previous Bredt Lecture awardees Peter Vollhardt (2008), Ryoji Noyori (2010), K. C. Nicolau (2012) and S. V. Ley (2014) – all giants in the field of Synthesis Chemistry.

Since 2008, the RWTH Aachen University has been honoring outstanding scientists whose research focuses on organic chemistry with the Julius Bredt Lecture. The Lecture is awarded every two years and is sponsored by Grünenthal GmbH.

Konrad Julius Bredt (1855-1937) was a German organic chemist who is well known for the first determination of the correct structure of camphor in 1893. Bredt also discovered that a double bond cannot be placed at the bridgehead of a bridged ring system. The statement is today known as Bredt’s rule.
