Joe Richmond receives Gmelin-Beilstein-Medal 2016
We are proud to announce that the Gmelin-Beilstein Memorial Medal 2016 has been awarded to Joe P. Richmond who highly contributed to the development of Thieme Chemistry during his working period at Thieme.
In memory of Leopold Gmelin, who first published the compendium of inorganic chemistry in 1817, and Friedrich Beilstein, who founded the handbook of organic chemistry in 1881/82, the GDCh awards the Gmelin-Beilstein Memorial Medal annually to chemists for outstanding contributions to the history of chemistry, the chemical literature or chemical information.
Joe Richmond started working at Thieme about 30 years ago. In 1989 he founded the journal SYNLETT which is one of the leading journals of synthetic organic chemistry.
Moreover, he was mainly responsible for the conceptional planning to transfer the handbook “Houben-Weyl” to the reference work “Science of Synthesis” which is today an established online product with contributions of more than 2.000 international authors. Today Joe Richmond still operates as Scientific Advisor for “Science of Synthesis”.
Honoring Joe Richmond’s outstanding contribution to scientific publishing and Thieme Chemistry’s success, Guido F. Herrmann, Managing Director of Thieme Chemistry, held the laudation for Richmond at the price giving ceremony in Weimar.
Congratulations!
