Congratulations to the SYNTHESIS and SYNLETT Best Paper Award Winners 2018!

Tehshik Yoon for SYNTHESIS and James Morken for SYNLETT, together with their co-authors, are the recipients of the 2018 Best Paper Awards.

It is our great pleasure to announce that Tehshik Yoon and his co-workers, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA, are the recipients of the SYNTHESIS Best Paper Award 2018 for their article A General Protocol for Radical Anion [3+2] Cycloaddition Enabled by Tandem Lewis Acid Photoredox Catalysis.

Paul Knochel, Editor-in-Chief of SYNTHESIS, pointed out that: "The paper is especially appealing since it describes a very general method for performing a radical anion [3+2] cycloaddition leading to highly substituted polyfunctional cyclopentane derivatives starting with readily available styrenes and cyclopropyl phenyl ketones. The tandem Lewis acid/photoredox catalyst is very convenient to prepare and highly effective. It is certainly a very valuable extension of dipolar cycloadditions using photoredox catalysis."

We are also delighted to announce that James Morken and co-workers, from Boston College in the USA, are honored with the SYNLETT Best Paper Award 2018 for their article A Protocol for Direct Stereospecific Amination of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Alkylboronic Esters.

Benjamin List, Editor-in-Chief of SYNLETT, commented: "The team has devised a new route to highly valuable alkylamines, which are among the most important substructures in pharmaceuticals and natural products. The developed method solves an important, previously not addressable synthetic problem, which is to stereospecifically convert primary, secondary, and even tertiary boronic esters, which are readily available reagents, into the corresponding alkylamines. The protocol is practical and requires only inexpensive reagents. It should therefore be of great utility to scientists working in the area of chemical synthesis, especially in medicinal chemistry."
