Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology&Diabetes Junior Editors

Would you like to learn the skills needed to edit a successful scientific journal?
Would you like the chance to work with top experts in diabetology and endocrinology?

Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology&Diabetes (ECED) is looking for talented and ambitious early-career endocrinologists and diabetologists (MD/PhD) to join our trainee program on how to become a scientific journal editor. Together with the Editors-in-Chief, you will focus on developing the key skills needed to successfully edit a scientific journal.

As a Junior Editor you will learn about the whole review process, from submission to acceptance, including:

  • the criteria for selecting papers for review
  • how to succinctly assess the value and the limitations of a paper
  • how to interpret and assess reviewer recommendations

And you might expect that your scientific reading and writing skills will greatly improve!

Appointments will be for two years and every Junior Editor will be mentored by one of the Editors-in-Chief throughout this period.  Applicants need to be aware that this position entails overseeing the review process of a minimum of 6 manuscripts per year as well as participating in tutorials (online) and engaging in social media activities.

Applicants should be:

  • specializing in experimental or clinical endocrinology or diabetology
  • currently be in a postdoc position or in advanced clinical training (last years of training or board examined)
  • interested in the publishing and editorial processes behind a scientific journal
  • fluent in English, especially in writing
  • experienced (to some extent) in scientific writing and publishing in an international journal
  • reliable, able to quickly respond to emails and tasks
  • members of the German Endocrine Society (DGE) or German Diabetes Society (DDG) (or be willing to do so)
